The Difference in Cost Between a Drive and Discover Trip and a Big Trip

As a traveler, if I am not with Drive and Discover, I enjoy going to the beach. Like any parent, I want to take my kids to every place I can and let them experience all they can. I want to give them those big trips with rollercoasters and fancy hotels. Because of the age range of kids I have in my home, it seems the beach is always the best bet.

This year was a big year for my boys. I had one graduate, one who turned 21 years old, one who wanted to deep-sea fish, and one who is the perfect age for Disney. With all this to celebrate, I thought I would take them to do BIG stuff. I planned a seven-day/six-night trip to Florida. We landed in Orlando but ended our trip in Marco Island down by the Everglades.

We flew. We rented a car. We stayed at a Holiday Inn Vacation Club Resort in Orlando and then a Marriott Vacation Club on Marco Island.

Our adventures included:

  1. Sea World for six people
  2. Animal Kingdom for four people
  3. Discovery Cove for six people
  4. An airboat tour through Everglades for six people
  5. Deep-Sea Fishing for five people.

It was amazing! But was it? I wanted to do something special for each kid. And although I love to travel on the road, I thought we could give the kids a break from it. We did it big, but I am not sure they will even remember all we did after all that. But, for some reason, they can constantly tell me some memory or a piece of knowledge gained from a Drive and Discover trip.

When I look at the cost of the two types of trips, the big trip compared to a DD trip, and I gasp at the cost difference. I want prospective customers and our current customers to know that you can have just as much fun and get an education if that is what you are looking for, for a fraction of the cost! You can also add the big trip things (amusement parks, etc.) as you enter the major cities if you would like to do! Your options are unlimited!

The point of me discussing this is not to say don’t make the big trips because we all need them at times, but to show you the difference in cost. There is a budget you complete in each manual and journal for the DD trips (which is also a math lesson). I decided I would do the same for our Florida trip to compare the cost and to have evidence of the difference between the two types of trips.

Also, a family who completed the West Texas Region, which is the most expensive in my mind because there are not many hotels you can use points on or select from, allowed me to use their final budget as a comparison. They did five nights/six-day, drove a Tahoe, and are a family of four. They stayed at some of the nicest accommodations and did some adventures.

Costs:

The Florida trip total was $11,393.00

compared to

The West Texas Region total of $3,083.00

Drive and Discover is quite a big difference, especially if you like to travel on a budget, but I can promise it is not due to a lack of adventures, entertainment, and memories!

It is like a jackpot, a pot of gold, a win. You will have a wonderful time, learn something (I hope), and not break your bank!
